I am an undergrad student working with Chris Eliasmith to construct and implement neurologically plausible models of Bayesian inference. Experiments have shown that people approximate perfect Bayesian
estimators when performing certain perceptual tasks.  But past models have made unrealistic assumptions (such as purely Gaussian statistics), have failed to account for the formulation of statistical priors, or have lacked neurological plausibility. Using the NEF and a hierarchical approach that estimates priors recursively (known as 'empirical bayes') we are building a model that should be free of these limitations.
